Settling into our summer season I would like to begin this week by thanking Monsignor Leo Gomez who covered for me while I was away attending to business and some away time. Jesus gave us the example last week in the gospel of how important that getting away is for our physical and spiritual health. I am grateful to Monsignor AND the whole staff for making that a reality for me too.

The Fortnight for Freedom is a campaign initiated by the Roman Catholic bishops of the United States. Events over the course of fourteen days from June 21 to July 4 each year, call upon Catholics to participate in a pledge to religious liberty and an appeal for the inclusion of a "conscience clause" for religious institutions and religious faithful to practice according to the moral tenets of one's religious faith.

First and foremost, for our thoughts this weekend must include a wonderful and heart-felt, “Happy Father’s Day,” to all those men who have been fathers AND father figures to us over all our years. My hope and prayer is that all the holy men who have been blessed as fathers, grandfather, Godfathers, step fathers and any other fathers are truly being treated well today (as they ought to be treated every day).

Clearly, the very first thing that needs to be shared with the whole community is a HUGE, “THANK YOU!” for all who worked so very hard for the incredible success of our FIESTAS 2016. Mil Gracias! Having now experienced my first FIESTAS here, I can honestly say I was (and continue to be) truly humbled by all that went into making this not just a financial success but also a success that was spiritual and reflected the great hospitality that is the best of the San Felipe Community. We will be having a meeting in the next few weeks to debrief the whole of the weekend. We also look forward to the planning of next year’s celebration. As we do all the final counts, we hope to be able to present a complete report to the community on all that was realized in this most celebratory time. Again, “Thanks!” to all.

Viva la FIESTA 2016!! This weekend we gather together as one community of faith to praise our God and to honor our patron San Felipe. Viva la FIESTA!! It is incredibly humbling to see all the people working so very hard and having fun too for this successful FIESTA 2016 weekend. I am truly moved by all those who are giving so much of their valuable time and talent to make this truly one exciting and special time. Thank you ALL!!
