“Jesus Christ is RISEN! Alleluia! Alleluia!” “He is RISEN indeed! Alleluia! Alleluia!” Last week at this time we were just starting the drama. Now we are fully engulfed in the sheer joy of this celebration of our salvation. We have re-lived all the thrills of the various celebrations of Palm/Passion Sunday. We have prayed through the solemnity of Holy Thursday and even WASHED FEET. We have borne the weight of the grieving of Good Friday and now come to the greatest, highest holy time of our whole year it is EASTER!! What a tremendous opportunity to celebrate, lift our hearts and spirits and know life.

So it begins. Today we began our celebration with Jesus and his followers feasting, singing, dancing and lots of laughter, probably with some adult beverages for some that night. It all changed so very quickly to a time of incredible fear, sadness, confusion, anger and disbelief. In between, the two experiences, they fell asleep. After all, they had just had a great feast and were certainly tired from all the excitement.

There is a truly wonderful song that we did in many other churches where I have served called, “All Are Welcome.” In this song one of the verses talks about the desire, prayer and dream to, “Let us build a church where God can dwell and all can safely live. . . .” This idea of being truly welcoming and a place that is Godly where all feel safe is something that makes my heart fill with joy.
