To make arrangements for Baptism, please contact the Parish Office for an appointment with one of our deacons. Baptisms are scheduled as requested after the parents have met with a deacon of the parish, received permission, and attended our baptismal classes.
Parents and Godparents from San Felipe must attend two Baptism Classes prior to the Baptism:
Class 1: Our Catholic Faith
A review of our Catholic Faith including;
- Creed - what we believe as we profess in the Apostle's Creed, the meaning of "Catholic", and particular beliefs of the Catholic Church including the saints, the Apostolic Tradition, and signs and symbols in the Catholi Church
- Moral Life - how we live based on the 10 Commandments and the Beatitudes
- Prayer - how we put into practice what we believe
Class 2: The Sacraments and the Rite of Baptism
This class will review the Sacraments, how they are related and review the Rite of Baptism, preparing your for actively celebrating the Baptism of your child.
The classes are offered on Wednesday evenings beginning with Mass at 6:00pm followed by a class that lasts approximately an hour and a half.
(Babies and children may not be taken to the baptism class to help the adults to concentrate and participate in the class.)
Parents should begin to make arrangements for Baptism and attend classes prior to the birth of the child.
Please note: The babies to be baptized and small children should not be taken to the class to allow the parents and godparents to actively engage in the class.
Godparents who belong to San Felipe de Neri Parish must have been registered in the parish for at least six months.
Godparents must obtain a letter from the pastor or one of the deacons giving them permission to serve as a Godparent.
Godparents must be practicing Catholics who are married in the Catholic Church if married. Godparents who are single must be attending Mass on a regular basis and celebrating the Sacrament of Confession on a regular basis. Persons who are cohabiting may not serve as Godparents for Baptism.
Godparents from another parish must meet the criteria listed above and obtain a letter of permission from the pastor of their own parish and a certificate indicating that they have completed a baptism preparation class.
The clergy of the parish will be happy to schedule a baptism on a Sunday when the criteria above have been completed.
